Mumbai, February 22: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has revealed that he is actively working towards bringing his dream project, the epic ‘Mahabharat’, to the big screen. Speaking at the ‘Ideas of India 2025’ event hosted by ABP Network, Aamir shared his ambitions not only for this grand project but also for creating more content for children.
Aamir expressed, “Making a film on ‘Mahabharat’ has been my lifelong dream. Perhaps now, I will be able to think about it seriously. Whether I will play a character in it or not, only time will tell.” He emphasized his interest in producing content focused on children, highlighting the lack of such content in India. He added, “We generally dub foreign content for children. I want to create original stories for them.”
The actor, known for his iconic roles in ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Lagaan’, and ‘3 Idiots’, also expressed his desire to shift gears as a producer. He said, “As an actor, I do one film at a time, and I am happy with that. But as a producer, I want to create more films. I am turning 60 next month, and for the next 10-15 years, I want to focus on doing more work and providing opportunities to new talent.”
Aamir stressed the need for more recognition and support for writers in the Hindi film industry. He also pointed out the disparity in cinema infrastructure between India and China, noting, “China has over 100,000 theaters, whereas we have only 10,000. We need more theaters that can meet the expectations of large audiences.”
Reflecting on his son Junaid Khan’s recent film ‘Lavyapa’, which did not perform well at the box office, Aamir admitted his disappointment. He said, “I believe it was a good film, and Junaid did a great job. As a father, I was ten times more anxious. I realized that even though I wasn’t involved in the film’s acting, production, or direction, I was still nervous.”
Aamir remains hopeful about his son's future in the industry, mentioning, “We are working on another film with Junaid, expected to release in November or December. It is a romantic film with a beautiful storyline. The film industry is a place where you face both success and failure.”
Aamir Khan will soon be seen in the sequel to ‘Taare Zameen Par’, titled ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, slated for a mid-2025 release. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the screen and his ambitious take on the ‘Mahabharat’, which could be a game-changer for Indian cinema.
