Chaos at Rajkot Mass Wedding: Organizers Vanish, Police Step In to Conduct Marriages
Rajkot, February 22: A mass wedding event in Rajkot turned into chaos on Saturday when 50 brides and grooms arrived for their wedding ceremonies, only to find no arrangements at the venue. The situation worsened when it was discovered that the event organizers had fled, leaving the couples and their families in shock and distress.
The aspiring couples, who had traveled from Rajkot and various districts across the state with dreams of beginning their new lives, were left stranded. When attempts to contact the organizers failed, with phones switched off, anger erupted among the families and guests.
In response to the growing agitation, Assistant Police Commissioner Radhika Bharai and her team stepped in. She mentioned, "The police took charge of the situation, ensuring that at least six couples could complete their wedding rituals on the spot." The police intervention helped bring back some of the grooms who had left in frustration, allowing the ceremonies to proceed.
Many couples had already moved to nearby temples and alternative venues to complete their weddings, but for the six couples who remained, the police facilitated the marriage rituals at the original venue.
The police department is now preparing to file a case against the organizers, as several families alleged that they had paid ₹15,000 each to cover the wedding arrangements. The organizers had promised to manage everything, including gifts for the newlyweds and all necessary facilities.
Shilpaben Bagtharia, who had come to attend her relative’s wedding, revealed, "The organizers had collected ₹15,000 from both sides and promised gifts and complete arrangements. It’s heartbreaking to see how these families were deceived."
The incident has raised serious concerns about fraudulent mass wedding schemes, highlighting the need for vigilance and verification before engaging with such events.
