India Clinches Six-Wicket Victory Over Bangladesh in Champions Trophy; Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami Shine

Dubai, February 20: Indian captain Rohit Sharma praised his team's adaptability to match conditions following a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy on Thursday. Highlighting Shubman Gill’s century, Mohammed Shami’s bowling performance, and discussing the ups and downs of the game, Rohit emphasized the importance of remaining prepared for every situation.

Chasing a target of 229 runs, India secured the win with 231/4, driven by Gill’s exceptional 101-run knock and Shami’s five-wicket haul, which restricted Bangladesh to 229 runs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit stated, “You need to approach every match with confidence. You must be ready for every situation that arises. As a team, I believe we adapted well to the conditions.”

Addressing the fluctuations during the match, he added, “In high-stakes tournaments like this, pressure is inevitable, but that’s when experience plays a crucial role.”

On Shami’s bowling, Rohit remarked, “Shami is invaluable in any situation. I thought you might mention the dropped catches, but watching Gill bat the way he did was simply outstanding.”

Rohit also acknowledged a dropped catch by Axar Patel, which cost Shami a hat-trick. He candidly admitted, “It was an easy catch. Given the standards I have set for myself, I should have taken it.”

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto reflected on his team's performance, saying, “Our start wasn't ideal. However, the partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Zakir Ali helped stabilize the innings. Unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize on the catches and run-out opportunities during bowling. Those moments could have changed the game.”

Awarded 'Man of the Match', Shubman Gill expressed his delight, “This century is certainly among my best. It is my first ICC tournament century, and I am extremely pleased. The pitch wasn’t easy. Early on, deliveries outside the off-stump weren’t connecting well. That’s why I utilized the crease against the pacers.”

India’s victory not only highlights the team's resilience and depth but also strengthens their position as a top contender in the ongoing Champions Trophy, showcasing a balanced blend of batting prowess and bowling precision.
