Delhi's New Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Promises ₹2,500 Monthly Financial Aid to Women

New Delhi, February 20: Delhi's newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government would fulfill its election promise of providing ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance to women. She emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would be held accountable for its actions during its tenure.

Addressing reporters outside her residence, Gupta announced that the first installment of the monthly assistance would be credited to the accounts of eligible women by March 8, marking International Women's Day.

During the election campaign, AAP had promised ₹2,100 per month to women, while BJP raised the bar by offering ₹2,500. Gupta, taking a critical stance on the previous AAP government, remarked, "They will have to give an account of every single penny to the people."

Before her swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, Gupta visited the Shri Marghat Wale Hanuman Baba Temple at Kashmiri Gate. Elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party on Wednesday, she reaffirmed that fulfilling promises would be her top priority.

She stated, "It is the responsibility of all 48 BJP MLAs in the national capital to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. We will definitely fulfill all our promises, including financial assistance to women. The amount will undoubtedly reach their accounts by March 8."

The swearing-in ceremony will also witness the induction of six newly elected ministers, including Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and Ravindra Indraj. Notably, Verma had defeated AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat.

In the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP clinched 48 out of 70 seats, ending AAP's decade-long rule. Gupta, a former Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president and a first-time MLA, will take the oath of office as Delhi's Chief Minister on Thursday afternoon. The ceremony is expected to be graced by Prime Minister Modi and several distinguished personalities.
