Writer of ‘Stree 2’ Calls This the Worst Phase for Screenwriters in Bollywood
Mumbai, February 15 – Bollywood is facing a severe crisis of original stories, making it one of the toughest times for screenwriters, according to Niren Bhatt, the writer of the hit film Stree 2. However, he believes this challenging phase also presents a golden opportunity for those willing to break conventional norms.
Speaking at the seventh edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference, Bhatt highlighted the struggles that writers are currently facing in the industry. He stated that traditional storytelling structures have collapsed, leaving only those who can bring fresh and innovative content with a chance to succeed.
The writer also pointed out Bollywood’s current obsession with remakes, noting that most of them have failed commercially. Citing statistics, he revealed that out of 25 remake films released post-pandemic, 23 were box office flops, reinforcing the need for more original storytelling.
Bhatt, who penned the script for Stree 2, one of the only major Bollywood successes in 2024, is currently working on Thama, Stree 3, and Bhediya 2.
