Massive Fire Engulfs Biscuit and Wafer Factory in Surat's GIDC Area
Surat, February 12 – A massive fire broke out at a biscuit and wafer (chips, namkeen) manufacturing factory in Surat's Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area, causing severe damage to the facility. Officials confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that no casualties have been reported so far.
According to Vijay Tandel, Deputy Officer of Kamrej Fire Department, the blaze started around midnight at the factory located in Borsara village. The fire intensified after flammable liquid stored in drums exploded, making it more difficult to control.
Despite 12 hours of relentless efforts, firefighters are still trying to completely douse the flames. Tandel added that six to seven fire engines from multiple fire stations were dispatched to the site to combat the blaze.
Surat Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitesh Joysar confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported. However, a large section of the factory has been completely gutted.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and an investigation is underway to assess the total damage and the circumstances leading to the incident.
