Gujarat Government Issues 458 Notices for Unauthorized Religious Structures on Public Land
Ahmedabad, February 12 – The Gujarat government informed the High Court on Tuesday that it has issued 458 notices to remove unauthorized religious structures on public spaces, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives.
A bench led by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal acknowledged the state government’s efforts in implementing the guidelines and taking effective measures to clear illegal religious encroachments on public roads, parks, and other public areas.
To further the awareness drive, the government published 2,607 notices in local newspapers and engaged with religious leaders to ensure compliance with the removal process.
This legal action traces back to 2006, when the High Court initiated suo motu proceedings regarding a demolition drive by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation to remove religious encroachments from public spaces. The government’s latest response marks a significant step in implementing the court's long-standing directives.
