Ahmedabad Man Commits Suicide After Harassment by Blackmailing Gang
Sola Police Arrest Gang Members, Register Case of Culpable Homicide
Ahmedabad, India - A young man took his own life in Ahmedabad, after being harassed by a blackmailing gang who made a nude video of him and threatened to go public with it. The Sola police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the gang and have taken further action by arresting its members.
The gang, known as the Mewati gang, had recently been apprehended during a campaign in the areas of Rajasthan and Haryana. The group lured people into virtual sex traps via video calls and then extorted money from them, threatening defamation and cheating them in the name of part-time jobs. Among the five arrested, two had extorted Rs 2.69 crore from an elderly Ahmedabad businessman after trapping him in a virtual sex scheme.
In this case, the gang had mentally tortured the young man, demanding more money after already taking Rs 8 lakh from him by threatening to release his nude video. Unable to cope with the constant threats, the young man hanged himself in his home.
According to a complaint filed by the deceased's brother, Manoj Vadgama, he received a call from his sister-in-law informing him that his brother, Bhavinbhai, had been electrocuted and that he should come home immediately. Upon arriving, Manoj learned that his brother had hanged himself in the gallery of their house. After Bhavinbhai's death, a call was received on his phone from the gang, threatening to make the video viral on YouTube.
Manoj filed a complaint with the police on April 22, leading to the arrest of the entire gang. The police are now investigating the case and taking further action against the group.
