Jasprit Bumrah Reflects on ICC Cricketer of the Year Award, Cherishes T20 World Cup Victory
New Delhi, January 28 – Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, honored with the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award for 2024, expressed immense pride in receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. However, he emphasized that team success remains his top priority, citing India’s T20 World Cup triumph as his most cherished moment of the year.
2024: A Memorable Year
The 31-year-old bowler, known for his exceptional performances throughout the year, was also named the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and featured in the ICC Test Team of the Year.
Bumrah shared his excitement with broadcasters, saying, “It feels great. I’ve grown up watching my idols win this award, so to receive it myself is truly special.”
He added, “Winning the T20 World Cup was incredibly special, and the memories from that victory will always remain close to my heart.”
Stellar World Cup Performance
During the T20 World Cup held in the USA and the West Indies, Bumrah took 15 wickets with an outstanding economy rate of 4.17, playing a pivotal role in India’s championship run.
“I’ll always cherish the T20 World Cup title,” Bumrah reiterated, underlining the emotional significance of the achievement.

Despite the accolades, Bumrah remains humble. “Receiving awards from legends of the game is amazing, and I’m truly happy about it. But I keep my feet firmly on the ground. These achievements mean a lot to me,” he said.

Reflecting on his standout moments, Bumrah highlighted his dismissal of Ollie Pope during the Test series against England in Visakhapatnam as particularly memorable.
“I played a lot of Test cricket this year, and many wickets were special. But the wicket of Ollie Pope stands out because it turned the game in our favor,” Bumrah explained.
