Three Dead, 12 Rescued After Four-Storey Building Collapses in Delhi's Burari Area

New Delhi, January 28 – A newly constructed four-storey building near Oscar Public School in Delhi's Burari area collapsed on Monday evening, killing three people, including two young girls, and injuring several others. Police confirmed the deaths of Sadhna (17) and Radhika (7), while the third deceased remains unidentified.

Rescue Efforts Continue

So far, 12 individuals have been rescued from the debris, and the rescue operation is ongoing. Authorities fear that more people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Emergency services, including the Delhi Police, Fire Department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are at the scene. A police officer stated, “The area has been cordoned off, and local residents are being questioned to ascertain how many people might still be inside.”

Investigation Launched

An investigation into the collapse has been initiated, and legal action has been taken against the building owner. Multiple teams have been formed to probe the incident.

Government Response

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi expressed her condolences and assured that assistance would be provided to the affected families. In a post on social media platform 'X,' she wrote, “The building collapse in Burari is deeply saddening. I have spoken to local officials to ensure immediate relief and rescue operations. All possible support will be provided to the victims.”

Former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal also responded, directing local MLA Sanjeev Jha to assist in rescue and relief efforts. He posted, “This is a tragic incident. Our MLA from Burari, Sanjeev Jha, has been instructed to visit the site immediately with party workers to aid in rescue operations and help the affected residents.”

Fire Department's Efforts

Delhi Fire Service Chief Atul Garg released a video early Tuesday, showcasing the ongoing rescue operation. He highlighted the tireless efforts of his team, stating, “Some personnel have been working non-stop since last night. The Delhi Fire Service is assisting all agencies in clearing debris and rescuing trapped individuals.”

The incident has raised concerns over construction standards and safety protocols in the city, as the authorities work to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
