Vadodara Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Sand Mining in Narmada River

Vadodara, India - A joint task force consisting of officials from the Revenue Department, Mines, Police, and Regional Transport Office (RTO) has seized 18 dumpers and 43 boats involved in illegal sand mining and transportation along the Narmada River. The operation was organized in response to complaints of land mafia activities in the region.

Collector Atul Gor and Superintendent of Police Rohan Anand formed a team of officers to address the issue and directed them to take action against the land mafia. The team, led by Provincial Officer Karjan Ashish Miyatra, included Geologist Sunita Arora, Karajan PI AK Bharwad, and RTO CR Patel. Together, they inspected sand-filled vehicles at various locations.

During the operation, 18 of the 70 dumpers filled with sand were found to be overloaded and subsequently seized by Mines Officer Sunita Arora. Punitive action will be taken based on the dumpers' overload capacity. In addition, Curzon police seized 50 vehicles for violating traffic rules, collecting an on-the-spot fine of Rs 24,500. RTO officials arrested 35 sand dumper drivers and collected a fine of Rs 4,38,500 by issuing memos.

Land Surveyor Sunita Arora also seized 43 canoes operating illegally on the banks of the Narmada River in several villages. Punitive action will be taken in accordance with the rules. The authorities have announced that they will continue to take strict action against illegal mining and transportation, conducting surprise inspections to curb such activities in the future.
