Bhavnagar Dummy Scandal: Authorities Arrest 23 Individuals, Including Politicians' Relatives

Bhavnagar / Ahmedabad, 26 April – The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is making progress in its probe into the Bhavnagar dummy scandal, which involves the use of dummy candidates in competitive examinations for government jobs. On Wednesday, authorities arrested the son of a Talaja Tehsil Panchayat member, following the arrest of the son of Bhalar village's Sarpanch on Tuesday. With political figures involved, the case has gained increasing attention.

To date, 23 people have been arrested in connection with the scandal. After the arrest of the Talaja Tehsil Panchayat member's son, police are now interrogating him. On Tuesday, Chandradeep Chauhan, son of Tehsil Panchayat member Bharat Chauhan and the Sarpanch of Bhalar village, was also detained. Chandradeep is accused of using a dummy candidate in the MPHW exam in 2022. Bhavnagar's Superintendent of Police has assigned Deputy Superintendent of Police RR Singhal to lead the SIT investigation.

Meanwhile, Ghanshyam Ladhwani, another individual arrested in the case, has been hospitalized in Bhavnagar city due to high blood pressure. After being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he was moved to the Prisoner Ward when his condition improved.

In a related development, police will seek the remand of Yuvraj Singh's second brother-in-law, who is accused of demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore in exchange for not disclosing the names of two suspects in the Bhavnagar dummy case. Police have so far seized ₹73.5 lakh from the accused, with ₹25.50 lakh recovered from Shivubha's friend's house and ₹38 lakh from Yuvraj's first brother-in-law Kanbha's residence. The accused had hidden the money at various friends' homes for two years. Shivubha Gohil, Yuvraj's brother-in-law, surrendered at Bhavnagar Neelambagh police station.
