Three Fatal Incidents in Rajkot on Makar Sankranti: Kite Flying Turns Tragic

Rajkot – Makar Sankranti celebrations in Rajkot turned somber as three individuals lost their lives in separate kite-related accidents. The incidents included a 28-year-old man who succumbed to injuries caused by a kite string, and two others, including a child, who fell from rooftops while flying kites. In addition, 60 people were injured during the festivities, including 15 due to kite strings and 45 from falls, according to officials at the Civil Hospital.

Kite String Claims Life of a Young Worker

Prakash Jaysukhbhai Sareria, 28, a resident of Bedla village near Rajkot, was fatally injured when a kite string slashed his neck while he was riding his motorcycle near Greenland Crossing in Mango Market. Prakash was returning home from his elder brother's residence in Diveliyapada. Despite the immediate response of a 108 ambulance team, Prakash was declared dead on the spot. Police registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation. The victim, who worked at a brick kiln, was the younger of two siblings, and his sudden death has left the family devastated.

Child Falls While Flying Kite

In a second incident, 10-year-old Kashyap Vivek Chandra, a resident of Brahmanad Society-6 near Ghanteshwar, tragically fell from the second-floor terrace of his home while flying a kite. He was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A fifth-grade student, Kashyap was the only child of his parents, who are inconsolable after the tragedy. Gandhi Gram-II Police have registered a case of accidental death.

Teenager Falls from Factory Terrace

In a third incident, 18-year-old Ayan Khan Shehzad Khan Pathan, originally from Uttar Pradesh and residing in Jungleeshwar-29, fell from the second-floor terrace of a factory in Meera Udyog Nagar-2, Thorala, while flying a kite. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ayan, who lived with his uncle and worked in a factory, was the only son of his parents. Thorala Police have filed an accidental death report and are conducting further inquiries.

Spike in Injuries During the Festival

The Civil Hospital reported treating 60 individuals injured on Makar Sankranti:

15 injuries caused by kite strings, including deep cuts and abrasions.
45 injuries from falls, ranging from minor fractures to severe trauma.

These tragic incidents underscore the risks associated with kite flying, especially when safety precautions are not observed. Authorities have urged the public to avoid using hazardous kite strings and to supervise children during such activities.
