Rohan Jaitley Re-Elected as DDCA President for Third Term

New Delhi, December 17 – Rohan Jaitley, son of late Union Minister Arun Jaitley, secured a third consecutive term as the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) by defeating former cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Kirti Azad in the elections.

Jaitley, 35, received 1,577 votes, significantly outpacing Azad, who garnered 777 votes. Out of the total 2,413 votes cast, the victory required a minimum of 1,207 votes.

A Legacy of Leadership

Jaitley first became DDCA President in 2020 through an unopposed election following the resignation of Rajat Sharma. In 2021, he successfully defeated advocate Vikas Singh to retain the post. His father, Arun Jaitley, had served as DDCA President for 14 years, leaving an enduring legacy in Delhi cricket.

Key Support and Election Results

Rohan Jaitley had the backing of former BCCI Acting President CK Khanna, a significant influence in Delhi cricket. Khanna's daughter, Shikha Kumar, also emerged victorious in the election, winning the Vice President post with 1,246 votes, defeating Rakesh Kumar Bansal (536 votes) and Sudhir Kumar Aggarwal (498 votes).

Other elected officials include:

Secretary: Ashok Kumar (893 votes)
Treasurer: Harish Singla (1,328 votes)
Joint Secretary: Amit Grover (1,189 votes)

The newly elected directors are Anand Verma (985 votes), Manjit Singh (1,050 votes), Navdeep M (1,034 votes), Shyam Sharma (1,165 votes), Tushar Sehgal (926 votes), Vikas Katyal (1,054 votes), and Vikram Kohli (939 votes).

Allegations of Corruption by Kirti Azad

Kirti Azad, currently a Trinamool Congress MP from Bardhaman-Durgapur in West Bengal, campaigned on allegations of corruption in DDCA. Azad accused the association of mismanaging funds, claiming that ₹17.5 crore was spent on floodlights, compared to only ₹7.5 crore for the larger Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He also alleged that the DDCA administration has failed to utilize the ₹140 crore received from the BCCI last year effectively.

Three-Year Tenure

The newly elected office-bearers, including Jaitley, will serve a term of three years. The directors, however, will face elections annually.
