Hearing in Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah Dispute Adjourned to January 6
Prayagraj – The Allahabad High Court on Monday postponed the hearing of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute case in Mathura to January 6, 2025. Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, who took over the case following the retirement of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, is presiding over the matter.
The Hindu side has filed 18 lawsuits seeking the removal of the Shahi Eidgah Mosque, claiming ownership of the land and seeking the reconstruction of the temple.
Background and Previous Rulings
Earlier, on August 1, 2024, the Allahabad High Court rejected a petition by the Muslim side challenging the maintainability of the lawsuits filed by Hindu parties. The court ruled that these suits are not barred by limitations, the Waqf Act, or the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
The Places of Worship Act prohibits the conversion of the religious character of any place of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947.
The court's next hearing will further address the legal arguments surrounding the dispute.
