Man Cuts Off Own Fingers to Avoid Job in Surat

Surat, December 14 – In a bizarre incident, a 32-year-old man in Gujarat's Surat city severed four fingers of his left hand with a knife to avoid working as a computer operator in his relative's diamond company. Surat police disclosed this on Saturday.

Initially, the man, identified as Mayur, told police that he fainted by the roadside and found his fingers cut when he regained consciousness. However, an investigation revealed that he had inflicted the injury upon himself.

According to a statement from Surat Police Crime Branch, Mayur lacked the courage to inform his relative that he no longer wanted to work at "Anabh Gems," a diamond company located in the Varachha Mini Bazaar area. By cutting his fingers, he rendered himself incapable of continuing the job in the company’s accounting department.

Contrived Story Exposed

Mayur initially claimed he was riding his motorcycle to a friend’s house on December 8 when he felt dizzy and fainted near Vedant Circle on Amroli Ring Road. He told police that when he regained consciousness about 10 minutes later, he found four fingers of his left hand severed.

Following his complaint, Amroli police registered a case and handed the investigation over to the Crime Branch, which analyzed CCTV footage and conducted technical surveillance. Their findings pointed to Mayur's deliberate actions.

Confession Reveals the Truth

During interrogation, Mayur admitted to purchasing a sharp knife from a shop near Singanpur crossroads. On the night of December 8, he rode his motorcycle to Amroli Ring Road and parked it. Around 10 PM, he cut off four fingers of his left hand using the knife. To stem the bleeding, he tied a rope around his arm near the elbow. He then disposed of the knife and severed fingers in a bag before seeking help.

His friends later took him to the hospital for treatment. Police subsequently recovered three of his severed fingers and the knife from separate locations.

Investigation Ongoing

Amroli police are continuing their investigation into the case. Authorities said Mayur's extreme step highlights his mental state and inability to communicate his discomfort with his job.

This unusual incident has raised eyebrows and brought attention to workplace stress and communication issues within families.
