Comedian Sunil Pal's Alleged Kidnapping Case: Two Detained, Investigation Underway
Meerut, December 11 – Two suspects have been detained in connection with the alleged kidnapping and extortion case of comedian Sunil Pal. Meanwhile, Pal’s wife Sarita, accompanied by three lawyers, arrived at Meerut’s Lal Kurti police station on Wednesday, claiming that the viral audio clip related to her husband had been tampered with.
The Incident
Pal had claimed last week that he was abducted while attending an event in Uttarakhand. According to his statement, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₹20 lakh but released him after accepting ₹8 lakh. He alleged that he was abandoned on the roadside in Meerut, from where he managed to reach Delhi airport and fly back to Mumbai.
Transfer of Case
The case, initially registered at Mumbai’s Santacruz police station, has now been transferred to Meerut for further investigation. Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed, “The kidnapping case of comedian Sunil Pal has been handed over to Meerut police for investigation. Two suspects are currently in custody for questioning.”
Viral Audio Clip Under Scrutiny
The police are also examining an online audio clip that purportedly features Pal discussing the alleged kidnapping and media attention. Sarita Pal, however, claimed that the audio had been edited. “The clip is incomplete and manipulated. Sunil was threatened before the recording. The truth will emerge once the accused are apprehended,” she told reporters.
Ransom Details
Sarita stated that the kidnappers initially demanded ₹20 lakh, but they negotiated and paid ₹8 lakh. She added that Sunil later contacted friends for assistance.
Sunil Pal’s Current Condition
According to Sarita, Sunil Pal is currently at home but unwell. She visited Meerut to meet with police officials on his behalf.
Connection to Actor Mushtaq Khan
When asked about Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan’s alleged kidnapping case, Sarita denied any knowledge. Mushtaq Khan, known for roles in films such as Welcome and Gadar 2, had accused unidentified individuals of abducting and extorting him in western Uttar Pradesh last month. A separate FIR was registered in Bijnor on Tuesday, and the police are investigating that case as well.
