Customer Arrested for Assaulting Bank Manager in Ahmedabad Over Tax Dispute

Ahmedabad: Police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a public sector bank manager over a dispute regarding tax deductions on fixed deposit (FD) interest. The incident occurred at the Union Bank of India’s Vastrapur branch on December 5 and was captured in a video that circulated on social media.

The video shows two men grabbing each other’s collars while a woman attempts to calm the situation. Despite her efforts, the irate customer is seen slapping the manager and tearing his shirt.

According to Inspector L. L. Chawda of Vastrapur Police Station, a complaint was filed against the accused, identified as Jaimin Rawal, who was arrested the same day.

The manager stated in the complaint that Rawal accused the bank of deducting excessive tax at source (TDS) on his FD interest. Despite being informed that the deducted amount could be reclaimed while filing an income tax return, Rawal allegedly began hurling abuses and seized the manager’s ID card.

When an insurance company employee attempted to mediate, Rawal reportedly slapped him and tore his shirt.

Police have registered a case against Rawal under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault to deter a public servant from discharging duty), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code.
