Two Arrested in Palghar for Allegedly Duping Youths in Agniveer Recruitment Scam
Palghar, December 7. The police in Palghar, Maharashtra, have arrested two men from Satara district for allegedly duping youths under the pretext of helping them pass the Agniveer recruitment process.
The accused, identified as Annasaheb Dhanji Kakade (30) and Ganesh Kale (27), were taken into custody by the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police.
Senior Inspector Suresh Gaikwad from Virar Police Station said, "The accused posed as influential individuals and promised to facilitate recruitment for youths under the central government’s Agnipath scheme."
The recruitment process had been underway at the Jeevdani Cricket Ground in Virar since November 28. According to officials, the accused approached candidates at the ground, offering to help them clear the selection process in exchange for money. They reportedly took an advance payment of Rs. 1,000 from one candidate and asked him to bring more youths.
However, some of the candidates grew suspicious and realized they were being duped. They reported the matter to the police, who apprehended the duo on the spot.
The accused have been charged under sections 318(4) (cheating), 62 (offenses punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Both suspects were presented before a local court, which remanded them to police custody for five days. Further investigations are ongoing.
