New Delhi, December 3 – Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia's award-winning film All We Imagine as Light has been honored with the Best International Feature Film award at the 2024 Gotham Awards. The prestigious annual event celebrating global independent cinema was held in New York on Monday.
According to Deadline, the film had already garnered acclaim earlier this year, securing the Jury Grand Prize at the 2024 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
In the Gotham Awards’ Best International Feature category, All We Imagine as Light triumphed over strong contenders like Green Border, Hard Truths, Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell, and Vermiglio. Payal Kapadia was also nominated in the Best Director category, but that accolade went to RaMell Ross for Nickel Boys.
Featuring powerful performances by Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha, the film narrates the story of two nurses from Kerala who navigate personal and professional challenges while living in Mumbai.
All We Imagine as Light had previously won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, solidifying its place as a standout work in contemporary independent cinema. With its thoughtful exploration of women's lives and societal expectations, the film continues to earn accolades from audiences and critics alike.
