State-of-the-art Judicial Facility to Cost Rs 136 Crore; Virtual Bhumi Pujan for Judicial Residences Also Held

Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Start of New District Court Building in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar, April 23 – In a move towards strengthening judicial infrastructure, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone for a new, state-of-the-art District Court building in Gandhinagar. The facility, set to cost Rs 136 crore, will feature seven floors, two basement parking levels, and 28 courts. The ceremony was attended by various officials, including Law Minister Hrishikesh Patel, Supreme Court Justices M.R. Shah and Belaben Trivedi, Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court A.J. Desai, and State Advocate General Kamalbhai Trivedi.

The new building will be constructed on a 19,375-square-meter plot at Ramkatha Maidan, Sector 11 in Gandhinagar, and will include conference rooms, a modern library, testimony classrooms for witnesses, and judge's chambers. The Chief Minister also performed a virtual bhumi pujan for judicial residential buildings at Dhulia Kot, Law Garden in Ahmedabad.

To bolster infrastructure development, the Gujarat government allocated Rs 2014 crore for the Law Department in its record-breaking Rs 3 lakh crore budget. In addition, Law Minister Hrishikesh Patel stated that over the next five years, Tehsil-District Courts will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment necessary for technology.

Supreme Court Justice M.R. Shah emphasized the importance of speedy justice, especially in accident cases, while Supreme Court Judge Belaben Trivedi underlined the need for quick and easy justice for the common man in Tehsil and District Courts. Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court A.J. Desai highlighted the benefits of the new court building's central location in Gandhinagar, as well as the construction of over 200 residential houses for staff, including judges, in the Law Garden area in the heart of Ahmedabad city.
