Father Sentenced to Death, Nine Others Get Life Imprisonment for Double Murder in Rajasthan
Sikar Court Delivers Verdict in Honor Killing Case
Sikar, November 30: A local court in Sikar, Rajasthan, sentenced a man to death on Saturday for the brutal murder of his 19-year-old daughter and her lover. Nine others involved in the crime were handed life imprisonment, while one person received a three-year jail term. Three accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Additional District Sessions Judge Mahendra Pratap Beniwal delivered the verdict, marking a significant judgment in the case of honor killing. The court ruled that the nine convicts sentenced to life imprisonment must remain in jail for the rest of their natural lives.
Details of the Crime
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Gopal Singh Bijarnia, the incident took place in October 2019 when Ramgopal, the primary accused, caught his daughter talking to her lover on the phone. Enraged, he severely beat her and then lured the lover to a petrol pump where he abducted him. Both the young woman and her lover were beaten to death, and their bodies were disposed of in a hilly area.
The prosecution presented 69 witnesses and 270 documents in court, alongside CCTV footage that captured the violent assault on the couple. The damning evidence led to the death sentence for Ramgopal.
Sentencing Details
In addition to Ramgopal’s death penalty, nine others—Mahadev, Parasram Chopra, Mahendra Chaudhary, Nandlal, Birbal Dhaka, Sohanlal, Madanlal Chandiwal, Babulal, and Sandeep Gurjar—were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Rajesh Chaudhary was sentenced to three years in jail, while Mahendra Chopra, Mahendra Gurjar, and Chhotu Ram alias Chhotu were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the persistence of honor killings in India and the severe penalties that await perpetrators.
