Ahmedabad Court Orders Judicial Custody for Fraudster Kiran Patel
Accused of Rs 80 Lakh Land Fraud, Patel's Bail Application to Be Heard on Tuesday
Ahmedabad: After the completion of his remand, alleged fraudster Kiran Patel was produced in the Metro Court, which ordered him to be sent to judicial custody. Patel, accused of defrauding Rs 80 lakh in a 2017 land deal while posing as a PMO official, applied for bail following the court's decision. His regular bail application will be heard in the Metro Court on Tuesday.
Captured in Kashmir, Patel was first presented in court, where his remand was approved. He appeared again on Friday after the completion of his remand, and the Metro Court ordered him to be sent to judicial custody.
The complaint against Patel was filed by a developer in Ahmedabad's South Bopal, who claimed Patel had defrauded him in the land deal. The complainant, Upendrasinh Chavda, met Patel in 2016 at Sabarmati Central Jail while visiting a friend named Salim Khoja.
Upon Khoja's release, he reintroduced Chavda to Patel, who then claimed to be in the business of tobacco cultivation. In March 2017, Patel demanded money from Chavda, which was refused. Patel later visited Chavda's house in South Bopal and claimed to have 1,867 square meters of land in Narol. After taking Chavda to the site and convincing him of the plot's ownership, Patel allegedly defrauded him of Rs 80 lakh.
