Bangladeshi Woman Living Illegally in Surat for Three Years Arrested by SOG
Surat – The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Surat police has apprehended a Bangladeshi woman who had been living illegally in the city for the past three years. Prior to settling in Surat, she spent a year in Mumbai. During her time in Surat, she worked at various spas and even managed to obtain an Aadhaar card using forged documents. The police recovered an identification card confirming her Bangladeshi citizenship.
According to the SOG, the woman has been identified as Rasida Begum Jahangir Ali Sheikh. She was detained near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Delhi Gate in the Mahidharpura area of Surat.
During preliminary interrogation, the woman revealed that she entered India four years ago with the help of an agent in Bangladesh. She paid the agent ₹15,000 to cross the border through West Bengal. After entering India via a restricted border area in Jessore district, she traveled to Howrah Station and eventually reached Surat via different trains. She spent a year in Mumbai before settling permanently in Surat, where she rented a house.
Rasida Begum hails from Baranga village in Bangladesh. She explained that she entered India illegally through West Bengal’s Bangaon region. The SOG has filed an FIR against her under the Foreigners Act and Passport Rules. Further investigation is underway.
