India Clinches Series with a 7-Wicket Win Against Bangladesh in Rain-Affected Second Test
Kanpur, October 1: Despite almost two and a half days of play being lost to rain, India managed to defeat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the second Test match held at Green Park, clinching the two-match series 2-0.
After winning the toss, India bowled Bangladesh out for 233 runs in their first innings. In response, the Indian team declared their first innings at 285/9, securing a 52-run lead. Bangladesh struggled in their second innings, getting bowled out for just 146 runs, leaving India with a target of 95 runs to win.
India comfortably chased the target in 17.2 overs, scoring 98/3. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star with a quickfire half-century, scoring 51 runs. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 29, while Rishabh Pant contributed 4 not out. Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6) were the other Indian batters dismissed in the chase.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 2 wickets, while Taijul Islam claimed 1.
Bangladesh's Collapse in the Second Innings
Bangladesh had a poor start in their second innings. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin trapped Zakir Hasan LBW for 10 runs, giving India the early breakthrough. Ashwin then bowled Hasan Mahmud for 4, reducing Bangladesh to 36/2. The wickets kept tumbling as Ashwin dismissed first-innings centurion Mominul Haque for just 2 runs.
Shadman Islam (50) and Mushfiqur Rahim (37) were the only Bangladeshi batsmen who managed to resist for a while, but the team was eventually bowled out for 146.
For India, Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja each took 3 wickets, while debutant Akash Deep picked up one.
India Declares at 285/9 in the First Innings
India started their first innings with a blistering approach. Openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal raced past the 50-run mark within just three overs. Rohit was dismissed for 23 off 11 balls, while Jaiswal continued to attack, scoring a 31-ball half-century before being dismissed for 72 off 51 balls.
Shubman Gill contributed 39 runs, while Rishabh Pant made 9. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul accelerated India's innings with a half-century stand. Kohli fell for 47 off 35 balls, while Rahul smashed 68 runs from 43 deliveries. Akash Deep added a quick 12 off 5 balls as India declared their innings at 285/9.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan were the key bowlers, taking 4 wickets each. Hasan Mahmud chipped in with 1 wicket.
Bangladesh's First Innings: Mominul Haque Shines
Bangladesh struggled in their first innings but were held together by Mominul Haque's unbeaten century. He scored 107*, while Shadman Islam added 24, Najmul Hossain Shanto 31, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz 20. The team was bowled out for 233.
Jasprit Bumrah was India's standout bowler, taking 3 wickets. Ashwin, Mohammad Siraj, and Akash Deep picked up 2 wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed one.
With this victory, India completed a 2-0 series sweep over Bangladesh.
