Team Korea Arrives in Puducherry to Explore Economic Opportunities and Promote CSR Initiatives
Puducherry [India] September 26: A high-level Korean delegation, known as Team Korea, visited Puducherry on September 26 to enhance economic collaboration between the Union Territory and Korea. This delegation included representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, KOTRA India- Korea Business Cooperation Centre, Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME), Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Korea Trade Insurance Corp. (K-SURE), and Invest India Korea Plus.
During the visit, Team Korea hosted the “2024 Korea-India Joint CSR-Economic Cooperation Seminar” with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Puducherry.
KOTRA officials stated that the seminar’s main goal was to strengthen economic ties between Puducherry and Korea, as well as to identify potential sectors for collaboration. Team Korea plans to highlight the advantages of Puducherry to Korean companies.
Sungjoong CHO, the Commercial Counsellor at the Korean Embassy in New Delhi, who led the Team Korea delegation, said, “Considering Puducherry’s strategic location and human infrastructure, its economic level has a lot of potential to realize. I am quite sure that we will witness comprehensive cooperative relations between the two countries. I believe that today’s event is also a good occasion of introducing each other between Korea and Puducherry.”
Mr. CHO, emphasized Korea’s commitment to bolstering cooperation with Indian states and regions carried an untapped potential. This seminar represented a significant step in strengthening the economic ties between Korea and Puducherry, paving the way for future collaborations and mutual growth.
While making a presentation “Korea, Your Best Strategic Partner”, Ms. Jeongseon LEE, Executive Director from India- Korea Cooperation Center mentioned that the global value chain was evolving, creating new opportunities for collaboration between India and Korea.
“India’s growing economy, large market, and skilled workforce complement Korea’s technological and manufacturing strengths. For instance, both nations can co-develop emerging industries, with Korean firms providing advanced engineering education and training to Indian youth in sectors such as IT, electronics, and automotive, fostering future cooperation,” Ms. LEE added.
This initiative aims to foster economic cooperation between Puducherry and Korea, while also supporting local communities through CSR efforts by donating products to selected NGOs.
V Shanmuganandam, Chairman of CII Puducherry, delivered a congratulatory message, followed by a special address from P Jawahar, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Puducherry, and a presentation on “Prospective Business Sectors in Puducherry” by P T Rudra Goud, Director of Industries & Commerce Department, Government of Puducherry.
