Biden Delivers Final Address at UN General Assembly, Highlights Global Tensions and Diplomatic Solutions

New York – U.S. President Joe Biden delivered his final speech at the United Nations General Assembly today, focusing on ongoing global conflicts and the importance of diplomatic solutions. He touched on the escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah, tensions in the Indo-Pacific, and the Ukraine crisis. Biden also commended peaceful elections held in countries such as India, underscoring the strength of democracy.

During his address, Biden stressed the importance of remembering the horrors of October 7, referring to the attacks on Israel. “The world must not forget the atrocities of October 7,” Biden said, emphasizing that no matter which nation was responsible, it must ensure such actions never occur again. He condemned Hezbollah’s unprovoked rocket and missile attacks on Israel, which have been ongoing for over a year.

The conflict, Biden said, has displaced many people on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border. “This war benefits no one, and the situation has worsened. Diplomatic solutions are the only viable path,” Biden asserted. He reaffirmed that the U.S. stands firmly against aggression and highlighted the strength that comes when nations work together.

On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Biden reflected on the U.S. and NATO’s strong support for Ukraine. “When Russia invaded Ukraine, we had two choices: stand aside or stand up. The U.S., NATO, and over 50 nations chose to stand with Ukraine,” he stated. Biden praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people and declared that Putin’s war has ultimately failed.

Biden also addressed the growing concerns over China’s role in the Indo-Pacific region. He made it clear that the U.S. would continue to strengthen its alliances and partnerships in the region. “These alliances are not against any particular nation,” Biden clarified, adding that the U.S. aims to responsibly manage its competition with China to avoid conflict. “We must uphold our principles as we navigate this competition with China, ensuring it does not escalate into conflict,” he said.

The President further noted that Washington would continue to bolster its relationships with Indo-Pacific allies and partners. He reaffirmed that the U.S. must not withdraw from its global commitments, stressing that international collaboration is key to facing global challenges.

Biden also took the opportunity to praise peaceful elections in several countries, including India. “From Ghana to India and South Korea, we have witnessed people across the globe choosing their future through peaceful elections,” he remarked. Biden highlighted that nations representing a quarter of the world’s population are holding elections this year, underscoring the importance of democracy.

Reflecting on his long career in public service, Biden noted, “Since being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972, it is the power of the people that makes me optimistic about the future.” In his final address to the UN as President, Biden reinforced the message of hope and the enduring strength of democracy.
