Neeraj Chopra Finishes Second in Brussels Diamond League Final, Missing Title by One Centimeter
Indian Javelin Star Records Best Throw of 87.86 Meters; Grenada's Anderson Peters Wins with 87.87 Meters
New Delhi — India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured second place in the men's javelin event at the Diamond League Final held in Brussels, recording a best throw of 87.86 meters. This marks the second consecutive time that Chopra has finished as the runner-up in this prestigious competition.
Chopra narrowly missed clinching the title by just one centimeter, with Grenada's Anderson Peters winning the event with a throw of 87.87 meters on his very first attempt. The two-time world champion showcased exceptional form to secure the victory.
Germany's Julian Weber finished third with a throw of 85.97 meters. Notably, Neeraj Chopra had won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics last month.
Reflecting on his performance and the season, Neeraj shared a message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: "As the 2024 season comes to an end, I'm reflecting on everything I've learned throughout the year—improvements, setbacks, mindset, and much more. On Monday, I injured myself during practice, and an X-ray revealed a fracture in the fourth metacarpal bone of my left hand. This was another painful challenge for me, but with my team's help, I was able to participate in Brussels."
He added: "This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. Although I couldn't meet my expectations, I feel it was a season where I learned a lot. I am now determined to come back fully fit. I want to thank all of you for your encouragement. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025. Jai Hind!"
In the final event in Brussels, Neeraj's best throw of 87.86 meters left him just one centimeter short of the title. Anderson Peters of Grenada secured first place with his throw of 87.87 meters, capturing the championship.
