Surat Secures Top Spot in National Clean Air Survey 2024

Surat has once again solidified its reputation as India's cleanest city by clinching the top spot in the 'Clean Air Survey 2024', organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. This accolade follows extensive efforts by the Surat Municipal Corporation and the collaborative spirit of its residents, resulting in significant environmental improvements.

Why Surat Ranked First

The city's notable achievement includes a 12.71% reduction in PM10 levels compared to the previous year, a remarkable improvement from its 13th position in 2023. Surat's success is attributed to its comprehensive approach to managing solid waste, controlling road dust, scientifically disposing of construction waste, reducing vehicle emissions, cutting down industrial pollutants, and running public awareness campaigns. These initiatives have collectively enhanced the air quality, leading to its first-place finish in the survey.

Award Ceremony

In recognition of its achievements, Surat will be honored with the 'National Clean Air City' award by the Central Ministry of Environment. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 7th in Jaipur, where the city’s Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner will receive the accolade, along with a prize amount of 1.5 crore rupees.

Shalini Agrawal, the Commissioner of Surat Municipal Corporation, extended her gratitude to the citizens of Surat for their pivotal role in this success.
