Suryakumar Yadav Ruled Out of Duleep Trophy Due to Hand Injury

New Delhi – Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the initial rounds of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy due to a hand injury sustained during a pre-season match in Coimbatore last week. The injury occurred while Yadav was fielding for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, leading to his withdrawal from the tournament. He is currently undergoing treatment and routine check-ups at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

According to *ESPNcricinfo*, Suryakumar did not bat in the second innings of the match against the TNCA XI after injuring his hand on the third day. The Mumbai team management confirmed that this decision was made as a precautionary measure, considering his potential participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20 captain, recently expressed his eagerness to return to Test cricket. Having not played any first-class cricket for over a year, he had made himself available for the pre-season Buchi Babu Tournament to prepare for the red-ball format, with India scheduled to play 10 Test matches in the next five months. The Test series begins on September 19 in Chennai against Bangladesh.

Yadav, who played his only Test match against Australia last year, was included in the India C team for the Duleep Trophy, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The India C team is set to face Shreyas Iyer's India D team in Anantapur. Meanwhile, India A and India B teams will compete in another match at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In recent developments, fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik were also ruled out of the Duleep Trophy's initial rounds due to illness, and Ravindra Jadeja was recalled for unspecified reasons by the BCCI. Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav will replace Siraj and Malik in the India B and C teams, respectively.

On a positive note, Nitish Kumar Reddy has been declared fit by the NCA after recovering from a back injury that previously forced him to withdraw from India's T20I squad against Zimbabwe in July.
