Surat’s Textile Market Sees Positive Outlook Despite Challenges from Heavy Rainfall in Key Regions

Surat, the economic and industrial hub of Gujarat, is known for its textile production, which is not only supplied to various cities across India but also exported internationally. With the demand for textiles expected to rise in the coming months across the country, there is renewed activity in the city's weaving, knitting, dyeing-printing, and embroidery sectors. This anticipated demand is expected to drive growth from the eastern to western, and northern to southern markets in India.

As textile traders prepare for a potential surge in business, they are innovating and enhancing their offerings to meet the expected increase in demand. The robust monsoon across the country has raised hopes for improved consumer demand in rural areas. However, heavy rains in certain regions have caused significant damage to crops and industries, posing challenges for the textile market.

Expectation of Increased Demand in Coming Days: Trilok Gandhi

Trilok Gandhi, a prominent textile trader and leader in the New Textile Market, mentioned that while the current demand is moderate, there is optimism for increased sales in the near future. Gandhi, who specializes in suit fabrics, noted that demand in markets like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar is currently low. However, with the festival season transitioning into the wedding season, a surge in demand is anticipated. He also pointed out that heavy rainfall in regions such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar is affecting the textile trade, but expectations for increased demand remain strong.

Non-Stop Season Expected in Textile Industry: Ranganath Sarda

Ranganath Sarda, a textile trader from Surat Textile Market, highlighted that the current and upcoming festivals, such as Onam in South India, Ganesh Utsav in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and Durga Puja and Diwali in the eastern markets, followed by the wedding season, are driving strong demand for textiles. Sarda noted that due to the continuous demand, traders are now approaching mills for supplies, a reversal from the usual trend where mill representatives would seek orders from traders during slower periods. He expressed confidence that this "non-stop season" will continue for several months, bringing sustained momentum to the market.

Despite the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, the Surat textile industry is poised for growth, driven by the festive and wedding seasons that promise a robust demand for clothing across the nation.
