Samit Dravid Selected for India U-19 Team; Mohammed Aman and Soham Patwardhan Named Captains

New Delhi — In a significant development, Samit Dravid, son of former Indian captain and coach Rahul Dravid, has been selected for India's U-19 team for the first time. The young all-rounder will be part of the squad that will face Australia U-19 in a multi-format domestic series scheduled for September and October.

Mohammed Aman, a middle-order batsman from Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed captain of the 50-over team, while Soham Patwardhan from Madhya Pradesh will lead the team in the four-day matches.

Samit Dravid recently participated in his first senior men's T20 tournament, the Maharaja T20 Trophy, where he represented the Mysore Warriors. Although he batted in the middle order and scored 82 runs at a strike rate of 114 across seven innings, he was not called upon to bowl his medium pace during the tournament. The announcement of the India U-19 team coincided with the day Mysore Warriors were set to play the tournament's semifinal.

Earlier this year, the 18-year-old Dravid played a crucial role in Karnataka's victory in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a four-day format tournament for U-19 cricketers. He amassed 362 runs and took 16 wickets across eight matches, including two wickets in the final against Mumbai.

The India U-19 team will play three 50-over matches against Australia U-19 on September 21, 23, and 26 in Puducherry. Following that, they will compete in two four-day matches in Chennai on September 30 and October 7.
