Veteran Indian Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan Announces Retirement from International and Domestic Cricket

New Delhi, August 24 - In a heartfelt announcement made on his Instagram, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has decided to hang up his boots, retiring from all forms of cricket. Known for his dynamic batting and charismatic presence, Dhawan has been a staple in the Indian cricket scene, especially in one-day internationals (ODIs).

In the video, Dhawan expressed his feelings, stating, "I stand at a juncture where I look back at memories and forward to a new life. Playing for India was always my dream, and I lived it fully. I am grateful to many - my family, my childhood coach, and the teams I've been part of. It's time to turn the page, although it's with a heavy heart."

Dhawan’s cricket journey has been stellar. In ODIs, his preferred format, he played 167 matches scoring 6,793 runs at an average of 44.1, including 17 centuries and 39 fifties. His Test career was equally memorable, amassing 2,315 runs in 34 matches at an average of 40.6, with notable partnerships with Murali Vijay.

In the T20I format, Dhawan made 1,759 runs in 68 matches, averaging 27.9 with 11 fifties. His domestic cricket record is just as impressive, with 8,499 runs in 122 first-class matches, including 25 centuries.
