Mumbai, August 24 - In a tragic incident, a bus carrying Indian tourists from Pokhara to Kathmandu, Nepal, plummeted into the Marsyangdi River, resulting in the death of 41 passengers. Most passengers aboard the ill-fated bus hailed from Gorakhpur, adding to the gravity of the tragedy.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's office has confirmed that the remains of 24 victims will be repatriated to Maharashtra on Saturday. The Indian Air Force has been mobilized to assist in transporting the bodies, reflecting a coordinated effort between state and central governments to aid the grieving families.

Maharashtra's Minister Girish Mahajan detailed the incident and confirmed the death toll. He noted that the Nepalese Army managed to transport some survivors to hospitals immediately following the accident. "While we don't have all the details yet, our team is in constant touch with the authorities to ensure all possible support is extended," Mahajan stated.

The bus was returning to Kathmandu on Friday when it tragically veered off the road at Aina Pahara in the Tanahun district and fell into the river. Immediate fatalities numbered 16, with 11 more succumbing to their injuries in medical facilities. The injured were airlifted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for urgent care.

The victims included several residents from Bhusal village in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra. The Chief Minister's office further noted that the swift arrangement of an Indian Air Force aircraft for the repatriation of the bodies was facilitated by the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

This incident has cast a shadow over the community, prompting an outpouring of support and condolences from across the nation as efforts continue to provide relief and closure to the families affected.
