New Delhi – In a remarkable feat, Samoan cricketer Darius Visser broke the record for the most runs scored in a single over in T20I cricket, previously held by Indian legend Yuvraj Singh. Visser achieved this during the 2026 World Cup Regional Qualifier, where he scored an astonishing 39 runs in one over, surpassing the previous record of 36 runs.
Visser’s record-breaking over came during the 15th over of Samoa’s innings against Vanuatu. Facing Vanuatu's bowler Nalin Nipiko, Visser smashed six sixes in the over, with the added drama of three no-balls bowled by Nipiko. The bowler managed a dot ball on the fifth delivery, but it was followed by two more no-balls, allowing Visser to continue his onslaught, finishing the over with a six.
This extraordinary performance not only shattered Yuvraj Singh's record, who had famously hit six sixes off England’s Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup, but also placed Visser in an elite group of cricketers, including Kieron Pollard, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nicholas Pooran, who have all scored 36 runs in a single over in T20Is.
In addition to breaking the record, Visser became the first Samoan cricketer to score a century in a T20I match. His 132-run knock off 62 balls, featuring 14 sixes and five fours, was instrumental in Samoa’s 10-run victory over Vanuatu, securing their spot in the 2026 World Cup Regional Qualifier.
Yuvraj Singh’s record of six sixes in an over has been a benchmark in T20 cricket since 2007, inspiring other cricketers like Pollard and Airee. Visser’s achievement adds his name to the list of players who have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the shortest format of the game.
