Surat Health Department Cracks Down on Mawa Quality During Festive Season
Surat. As the festive season approaches, the demand for sweets in Surat surges, bringing with it concerns about the quality of mawa, a key ingredient in many sweet treats. To address these concerns, the Surat Municipal Corporation's health department has conducted raids across the city, targeting mawa sellers and sweet shops in eight different zones.
During these inspections, health department teams meticulously collected samples from various sweet shops and mawa dairies. These samples, which include mawa being prepared in dairies, will be sent to the public health laboratory for thorough testing.
"We have collected samples from mawa sellers in various areas of the city," explained a health officer. "These samples will be tested at the public health laboratory, and although it usually takes 14 days for the reports to be generated, we have urged the laboratory to expedite the process. This will enable us to take immediate action should any adulteration be detected."
The consumption of adulterated mawa poses significant health risks to consumers, and this proactive investigation aims to boost consumer confidence in the safety of food items. Adulteration is a punishable offense under the Food Safety Act, and the health department has promised strict action against any shopkeepers or dairies found violating these standards.
The results of the tests will determine the next steps, with stringent penalties awaiting those found guilty of adulteration. This initiative reflects the Surat Municipal Corporation's commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its citizens during the festive season.
