Lok Mela Rajkot Faces Fewer Rides Due to New Safety Rules
Stricter SOPs lead to reduced participation from ride operators at Rajkot's Lok Mela
Rajkot, July 9: The upcoming Lok Mela in Rajkot may feature fewer amusement rides than in previous years, as many operators have decided to skip the event. The decision follows the government's introduction of stringent safety guidelines for amusement park rides, enacted after a fire at the TRP Game Zone.
The new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) require ride operators to meet several conditions, including NDT testing, foundation checks, and fitness certification. These measures, aimed at enhancing safety, have been met with resistance from traders, who argue that compliance would demand considerable time and financial investment.
Zakir Baloch of the Gujarat Amusement Association expressed concern that if the government does not ease these regulations, the fair will see minimal participation from ride operators. In the auction held today, traders representing approximately 70 rides chose not to bid.
Adding to the tension, ice cream vendors have also voiced their dissatisfaction, protesting the increased stall prices at the fair.
