16 Fake Doctors Arrested in Surat Slum Areas

Unqualified Youths Caught Treating Patients Without Medical Degrees

16 Fake Doctors Arrested in Surat Slum Areas

Surat - In a major crackdown, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Surat arrested 16 fake doctors operating in the city's slum areas. These individuals, who had only completed education up to class 10-12, were found treating patients without any formal medical qualifications.

Acting on information about the prevalence of quack doctors in various slum areas, the SOG conducted raids in Dindoli, Udhna, and Pandesara. The raid revealed that these fake doctors were treating common ailments like fever and cough and administering glucose bottles and injections.

The SOG seized various medical supplies, including antibiotics, injections, BP machines, and glucose bottles, from the suspects. These unqualified practitioners primarily targeted poor and uneducated residents of the slum areas, exploiting their lack of awareness regarding medical credentials.

SOG PI Atul Sonara explained that the fake doctors had gained basic medical knowledge while working as compounders for real doctors. He stated, "These individuals targeted slum residents who are often unaware of the medical qualifications required to treat them."

The unqualified practice posed severe risks to patients' lives, as these individuals lacked proper medical knowledge. Administering incorrect medications could potentially lead to serious health issues. The police have registered cases against all 16 accused, and they have been taken into custody. The health department has also launched an investigation into the matter.

This operation was part of a broader campaign by the SOG against quack doctors. The raids, conducted with a team of doctors from the Surat Municipal Corporation, uncovered seven fake doctors in Dindoli and nine in Pandesara.
