Surat Police Rescue 38 Children from Forced Begging
Major Operation Targets Child Begging and Cleaning Scams
In a significant crackdown on child exploitation, Surat Police successfully rescued 38 children who were forced into begging and asking for money in the guise of cleaning. This extensive operation involved 30 police teams conducting raids across various parts of the city.
Among the rescued children, 17 are minors and 21 are girls. Disturbingly, 7 of these children are under 6 years old, and 31 are under 12 years old. Many of these children hail from other states, including Bihar and Maharashtra, apart from Gujarat.
Police reports indicate that these children were coerced into these activities by their parents or other relatives, while some were found to be orphans. The police had been monitoring these children for the past month, identifying 113 children involved in such activities.
All rescued children have been entrusted to the Child Welfare Committee. They will undergo counseling and medical examinations before being reunited with their families or placed in child correction homes.
This commendable initiative by Surat Police aims to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and offer them a chance at a brighter future.
