Thefts Plague Silence Zone Near Surat Airport

Surat- A spate of thefts has plagued the Silence Zone near the airport on Dumas Road in Surat over the past few days. Thieves targeted satellite bungalows and farmhouses, making off with antique idols, valuables, and cash.

In the first incident, on the night of July 22, miscreants broke into the bungalow of 66-year-old Yusuf Hussaini Africawala by breaking the iron grill. They stole two antique idols worth Rs 90,000, brass and copper utensils worth Rs 25,000, and camera lenses valued at Rs 2.15 lakh from the cupboard.

Earlier, on July 18, a second incident occurred at JR Villa Farmhouse. Thieves stole a trolley bag filled with fake jewellery, watches, and other items, along with cash worth Rs 55,500.

Following these incidents, the Dumas police took swift action. Based on footage from more than 150 CCTV cameras, they arrested Shaukat alias Shankar Dilawarbhai Rathod, Tejas Pappubhai Rathod, and Sunil Shankarbhai Rathod. The police have registered theft cases in both incidents and have launched a further investigation.
