Dog Bite Leads to Rabies Death in Surat

Surat - A 62-year-old man from Bhor Amli village of Sagbara tragically passed away after contracting rabies from a dog bite. The man, Gyan Singh Vasava, had neglected to receive the anti-rabies vaccination following the incident, which occurred four months ago.

The city of Surat continues to grapple with the issue of aggressive dogs. Vasava was admitted to the New Civil Hospital in Surat in critical condition, exhibiting rabies symptoms such as fear of water and light. Despite efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to the disease during treatment.

Ketan Nayak, RMO at the Civil Hospital, stressed the importance of receiving an anti-rabies vaccine immediately after being bitten by a dog or any other animal, as there is no cure for rabies once symptoms develop. Rabies vaccines are readily available at government hospitals and health centers.

To address the growing concern of dog bites in the area, a specialized dog bite clinic has been established, offering vaccinations 24 hours a day. The hospital currently receives approximately 20 to 22 new cases daily, with a total of 60 cases including older ones. The vaccination course consists of five vaccines.
