Gujarat ATS Busts Counterfeit Currency Operation in Ahmedabad
Four suspects arrested and INR 2.4 crore in fake 500-rupee notes seized
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has made a significant breakthrough in busting a counterfeit currency operation, arresting four suspects and seizing a house in Juhapura, Ahmedabad, used as a fake note manufacturing facility. The authorities confiscated 48,000 fake 500-rupee Indian currency notes, amounting to INR 2.4 crore in counterfeit bills.
The Gujarat ATS had received information about several individuals producing counterfeit currency in Juhapura, using printing machines and specialized inks. Acting on this intelligence, the ATS raided the location and apprehended the four accused.
In addition to the fake currency, investigators also seized the equipment used in the production of the counterfeit notes. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had been involved in the illicit business for an extended period. Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine if the accused have already sold fake notes in the market.
Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed they received 60% of the face value of the counterfeit notes as payment for their work. The Gujarat ATS is currently working to uncover the extent of the criminal network, including identifying potential accomplices and other locations where this operation may have been active. The bust represents a significant success for the Gujarat ATS in its ongoing efforts to combat the counterfeit currency trade.
