₹50 per day fine on delay in renewing vehicle fitness certificate withdrawn

Mumbai, 12 July (HS): The Maharashtra Government has withdrawn a fine of ₹50 per day on failure to renew fitness certificates for vehicles. Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has appealed to all vehicle owners to obtain or renew the fitness certificate from the regional transport offices.

The fine was being imposed for failure to renew the fitness certificate after 15 years. The auto-rickshaw and taxi owners had opposed the fine. A meeting of their unions was held with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde following the fine was withdrawn temporarily.
