Indian Athletics Team to Train Abroad Before Olympics

The 30-member Indian athletics team, gearing up for the Olympics, will train at three different locations abroad in the final leg of their preparations. The athletes will assemble in Paris on July 28, just four days before the track and field events commence.

The chosen training destinations are the Olympic Sports Centre in Spala, Poland; Antalya, Turkey; and St Moritz, Switzerland. Chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair confirmed the arrangements on Wednesday.

"Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be based in Antalya, Turkey," Nair stated. "Chopra has already arrived in Turkey and will join the team in Paris on July 28."

The team has grown to 30 members with the inclusion of long jumper Jeswin Aldrin and 5000m runner Ankita Dhyani, who qualified based on their rankings in the World Athletics Road to Paris System.

Currently, four race walkers—Akshdeep Singh, Paramjeet Singh Bisht, Vikas Singh, and Suraj Panwar—and triple jumper Abdullah Abubakar are training at the Sports Authority of India centre in Bengaluru. Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary are set to train in St Moritz, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, all members of the 4x400m relay teams (both men and women) will depart for Poland on Thursday. Additionally, athletes Kishore Kumar Jena (javelin throw), Jyoti Yaraji (100m hurdles), Jeswin Aldrin (long jump), and Praveen Chitravel (triple jump) have already arrived in Poland earlier this week.

The strategic overseas training aims to provide the athletes with the best possible preparation ahead of the prestigious global event.
