Gujarat Handloom Corporation Achieves Record Sales in 2023-24
GSHDC sees highest sales in 50 years, doubles last year's figures
The Gujarat State Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (GSHDC), a state government enterprise, has achieved a historic milestone in sales for the year 2023-24. Recording sales of over Rs 25 crore, GSHDC has broken a 50-year record, with this year's sales being double compared to the previous year.
GSHDC operates Garvi-Gurjari stalls across Gujarat and several other states, showcasing a diverse range of handloom and handicraft products. The remarkable sales figure underscores the significant efforts by the state government to promote the state's unique art and craftsmanship.
Traditional rural businesses in Gujarat are thriving due to these initiatives. GSHDC, established 50 years ago, aims to preserve and promote the state's handloom and handicraft heritage. The corporation has taken significant steps to boost sales of products made by artisans in remote villages, who continue to uphold Gujarat's rich artistic legacy.
Managing Director Lalit Narayan Singh Sandhu highlighted that the success can be largely attributed to the G-20 meetings and the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. These events, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, attracted numerous national and international visitors, many of whom purchased products from the Garvi-Gurjari stalls.
In detail, products worth Rs 19.21 crore were purchased from around 7,200 artisans associated with GSHDC. Additionally, products worth Rs 13 crore were sold through the corporation's sales centers, both within and outside the state. Monthly fairs and exhibitions also contributed significantly, generating sales exceeding Rs 12 crore.
