Banarasi Saree Adds Colour to Ambani Wedding

Varanasi - The Ambani family's upcoming wedding will be adorned with the exquisite Banarasi saree, a proud product of Kashi's artisans. Nita Ambani, wife of industrial magnate Mukesh Ambani, has ordered these sarees for her son's wedding, further enhancing the global reputation of this traditional craft.

The Banarasi saree, with its Geographical Indication (GI) tag, has gained a distinctive identity worldwide. The Yogi government has further propelled this ancient art by including the saree in the One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme, providing Kashi's artisans with international exposure. The saree's growing fame has captivated industries and elite circles globally, including the film industry and prominent industrialists.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have been pivotal in promoting GI and ODOP products. Their endorsement has opened new markets for these traditional crafts, breathing new life into the skills of local artisans. Nita Ambani's visit to Banaras, where she personally witnessed the intricate craftsmanship of the weavers, underscores this growing appreciation.

GI expert Padmashree Dr. Rajnikant emphasized that the GI-tagged Banarasi saree is made entirely of handloom and silk, a detail that appealed to Nita Ambani. Her selection of these sarees for the wedding is expected to boost the saree's international allure.

Saree trader and exporter Praveen Agarwal noted that the inclusion of Banarasi sarees in the GI product list and the ODOP scheme has revitalized this ancient craft. The Ambani wedding will further spotlight these sarees, enhancing their global market presence. Amit Shewaramani, owner of Suvidha Saree, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for increased demand and recognition among industrialists, celebrities, and international guests attending the wedding.
