Surat : Appeal for Stricter BRTS Corridor Rules
The steps taken to ensure that citizens follow traffic rules in Surat city are commendable, resulting in improved traffic management. Surat Municipal Corporation Transport Committee Chairman Somnath Marathe has written a letter to the city police commissioner, appealing for strict enforcement of the ban on entry of private vehicles in the BRTS corridor.
However, the increasing movement of private vehicles on BRTS routes has become a matter of serious concern. Bicycles, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and auto-rickshaws are misusing these routes, increasing the risk of accidents.
To reduce this menace, the following steps need to be taken:
-
Ban on Private Vehicles: There should be a complete ban on the entry of private vehicles on BRTS routes.
-
Deployment of Traffic Police: Additional traffic police should be deployed at places where traffic pressure is high.
-
Control of GSRTC Buses: The entry of GSRTC buses should also be controlled to avoid accidents.
-
Pedestrian Restrictions: During morning and evening peak hours, pedestrians should be restricted from using the BRTS routes.
Implementing these measures will improve the safety and efficiency of the BRTS routes and help prevent serious accidents in the city.
Therefore, the Surat Police Department is urged to take immediate action on these matters and implement necessary steps to ensure the safety of BRTS routes.
