Team India honored at Wankhede Stadium after grand welcome in Mumbai.
Mumbai: The World Cup T20 winning Team India was given a spectacular welcome upon their arrival in Mumbai. Their plane received a 'water salute' at Mumbai airport, marking the beginning of the celebrations. Following their landing, the team was welcomed with a cake-cutting ceremony right on the plane.
The World Champion players then boarded an open bus, which made its way to Wankhede Stadium. As the bus traveled through Marine Lines, throngs of enthusiastic fans lined both sides of the road, eager to see their cricketing heroes. The excitement peaked at Marine Drive Chowpatty, where fans gathered in massive numbers.
The bus journey culminated at Wankhede Stadium, where the players were felicitated by the BCCI. Fans were granted free entry to the stadium to join in the celebrations and cheer for their team. The players, holding the winning trophy, received immense adulation from the crowd.
Earlier, the victorious Indian cricket team met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence. During this meeting, Prime Minister Modi listened to the experiences of the world champion team. Social media photos showed him holding hands with team captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, rather than the trophy. BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah also presented Prime Minister Modi with a 'NaMo 1' jersey in Team India's colors.
Prime Minister Modi shared pictures of the meeting on the social media platform X, commenting, "A wonderful meeting with our champions. Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, and had a memorable conversation on their experiences during the tournament."
After clinching the T20 World Cup in Barbados, South Africa on June 29, Team India landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport in the morning. They were given a warm welcome at the IGI Airport, ITC Maurya Hotel, and during the journey to the hotel.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has invited Team India's Captain Rohit Sharma and four other players to Vidhan Bhavan on Friday to extend his congratulations and welcome them.
