CBI Raids Rajkot Central GST Office
Accused of demanding a huge bribe from businessmen for settlements.
Rajkot : A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid on the Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) office located on Race Course Ring Road in Rajkot city on Thursday. The raid, led by a team of CBI officials, involved thorough scrutiny of office documents, with official information to be disclosed after the investigation is completed.
According to the agency report, the investigation is focused on activities on the third floor of the Central GST office. Reports indicate that Central GST officials had initiated investigations at traders' premises without issuing any prior notice. Following these inspections, the officials allegedly demanded substantial bribes from the traders in the name of settlements.
The situation escalated when traders, who had initially requested a reduction in the demanded amounts, faced increased strictness from the officials instead of leniency. This led to high-level complaints from the traders, prompting the CBI to take action.
Sources reveal that the CBI team arrived in Rajkot on July 3, following the traders' complaints. Acting on the traders' input, the CBI commenced their investigation on the third floor of the Central GST Office from the morning of July 4. The investigation aims to uncover the extent of the alleged bribery and the involvement of GST officials in these illicit activities.
