Poisonous liquor wreaked havoc in Kallakurichi, TN, 35 dead

New Delhi, June 20 (HS): Poisonous liquor has wreaked havoc in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu. So far 35 people have died including five women. At present, the condition of 15 people remains critical. The wrath of the poisonous liquor tragedy has fallen on the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police.

The Tamil Nadu government has transferred District Magistrate Shravan Kumar Jatavath and suspended Superintendent of Police Samay Singh Meena. Some people have also been arrested in this regard.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed grief over the incident. He has taken action against the officers who failed to stop it. Stalin has expressed grief by releasing a post on X. He has said, I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of people dying due to drinking adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi.

Stalin has ordered a CB-CID investigation into the incident. After action against Kallakurichi District Collector Shravan Kumar Jathavath and Superintendent of Police Samay Singh Meena, nine other policemen have also been suspended. These include policemen from the prohibition branch of Kallakurichi district. MS Prashant and Rajat Chaturvedi have been appointed as the new District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Kallakurichi, respectively.
